इंग्लंडने 116 धावा अकरा षटकांमध्ये पार केल्यास त्यांची उपांत्य फेरीतील जागा नक्की होणार होती. मात्र, पहिल्या दोन षटकार त्यांनी अत्यंत संथ सुरुवात केली. यानंतर त्यांनी जोरदार फटकेबाजीला सुरुवात करत 9.2 षटकांत आव्हान पार केले. बटलरने 38 चेंडूवर 83 धावांची नाबाद खेळी केली. यात 6 चौकार व 7 षटकार समाविष्ट होते.
