सुपर 8 फेरीतील या सामन्यात ऑस्ट्रेलिया संघाला विजेते पदाचे दावेदार मानले जात होत. मात्र, अफगाणिस्तानने सर्वांचे अंदाज चुकवत मोठा विजय साजरा केला. गुरबाज व इब्राहिम यांनी केलेल्या शतकी भागीदारीमुळे संघाने 160 अशी सन्मानजनक मजल मारली होती. त्यानंतर नवीन उल-हक व गुलबदीन नईब यांनी प्रत्येकी तीन व चार बळी मिळवून संघाला 21 धावांनी दणदणीत विजय मिळवून दिला. या विजयानंतर अफगाणिस्तान संघाचे सर्वत्र कौतुक होत आहे.
