राष्ट्रीय संघाचे कर्तव्य पार पाडण्यासाठी इंग्लंडचा कर्णधार जोस बटलर (Jos Buttler) आयपीएल 2024 अर्ध्यात सोडून मायदेशी परतला आहे. आगामी टी20 विश्वचषकाच्या तयारीसाठी इंग्लंड पाकिस्तानविरुद्ध मालिका खेळणार आहे. असे असतानाच आता बटलर याने एक मोठे विधान केले आहे.
आयपीएलमध्ये नेहमीच इंग्लंडच्या खेळाडूंना मोठी मागणी असते. इंग्लंडचे खेळाडू मोठी रक्कम घेत आयपीएल खेळण्यासाठी येत असतात. बटलर हा मागील जवळपास नऊ वर्षांपासून आयपीएलचा भाग आहे. सध्या तो राजस्थान रॉयल्ससाठी खेळतो. विश्वचषकाची तयारी करण्यासाठी यंदा इंग्लंड आणि वेल्स क्रिकेट बोर्डाने (ECB) आयपीएलच्या अखेरच्या टप्प्यात त्यांचे प्रमुख खेळाडू मायदेशी बोलावून घेतले. याबाबत विचारले असता बटलर म्हणाला,
“माझी पहिली प्राथमिकता नेहमीच आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेटला राहील. ती आपली ओळख आहे. मात्र, मोठ्या कालावधीपासून आयपीएलला एक वेगळे विंडो मिळते. ती जगातील सर्वात मोठी लीग आहे. माझे वैयक्तिक मत असे आहे की, आयपीएल सुरू असताना आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट पाहिला नको.”
तो पुढे म्हणाला,
“या सर्व गोष्टी असल्या तरी विश्वचषकासाठी इंग्लंडच्या खेळाडूंना परत बोलण्याचा बोर्डाचा निर्णय योग्य होता. कारण सध्या आपले लक्ष फक्त विश्वचषक आहे.”
साखळी फेरी पूर्ण होण्याआधी इंग्लंडचे महत्त्वाचे आठ खेळाडू मायदेशी परतले होते. प्ले ऑफ्स सामन्यांमध्ये केकेआरला फिल सॉल्ट, राजस्थान रॉयल्सला बटलर व आरसीबीला विल जॅक्सची कमतरता भासणार आहे. या तीनही खेळाडूंनी आपापल्या संघासाठी सर्वोत्तम कामगिरी करत संघाला इथपर्यंत पोहोचवले होते. याव्यतिरिक्त रिस टोप्ली, मोईन अली, सॅम करन व जॉनी बेअरस्टो हे खेळाडू देखील पूर्ण हंगाम खेळू शकले नाहीत.
