Newzealand batter Colin Munro Annouced Retirement From International Cricket

मुन्रो याला टी20 क्रिकेटमधील दिग्गज मानले जाते. त्याने आत्तापर्यंत जगभरात टी20 क्रिकेट खेळताना दहा हजार पेक्षा जास्त धावा ठोकल्या आहेत. सध्या 37 वर्षांच्या असलेल्या मुन्रो याला विश्वचषकासाठी संघात निवड होईल अशी अपेक्षा होती. मात्र, त्याला ही संधी मिळाली नाही. त्यामुळे त्याने निवृत्ती जाहीर केले.
आपल्या निवृत्तीच्या प्रतिक्रियांमध्ये बोलताना तो म्हणाला,
“न्यूझीलंड संघासाठी आंतरराष्ट्रीय पातळीवर खेळणे ही माझ्या क्रिकेट कारकिर्दीतील सर्वात मोठी गोष्ट होती. देशाचे 123 वेळा प्रतिनिधित्व करणे ही अभिमानाची बाब आहे. माझ्या अखेरच्या सामन्यानंतर मी संघात पुनरागमन करण्याचा विचार करत होतो. मात्र, विश्वचषक संघात स्थान न मिळाल्याने आता निवृत्ती घेण्याची हीच योग्य वेळ आहे. यानंतर मी केवळ फ्रेंचायझी क्रिकेट खेळताना दिसेल.”
नुकत्याच संपलेल्या पाकिस्तान सुपर लीगमध्ये केलेल्या सातत्यपूर्ण कामगिरीमुळे त्याला राष्ट्रीय संघात निवडण्याची अपेक्षा होती.
मुन्रो हा जन्माने दक्षिण आफ्रिकेचा आहे. मात्र, त्याने आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावर न्यूझीलंडचे प्रतिनिधित्व केले. त्याने न्यूझीलंड संघासाठी एक कसोटी, 57 वनडे व 65 टी20 सामने खेळले. यामध्ये त्याने अनुक्रमे 15, 1271 व 1724 धावा केल्या. टी20 फलंदाजांच्या क्रमवारीत तो मोठा काळ पहिल्या क्रमांकावर स्थानापन्न होता. त्याने आयपीएलमध्ये दिल्ली कॅपिटल्स व मुंबई इंडियन्सचे प्रतिनिधित्व केले होते.
