त्रिनिदाद येथे झालेल्या या सामन्यात अफगाणिस्तान संघाने नाणेफेक जिंकून फलंदाजीचा निर्णय घेतला. त्यांचा हा निर्णय दक्षिण आफ्रिकेच्या गोलंदाजांनी पूर्णतः चुकीचा ठरवला. पहिल्याच षटकातच जेन्सन याने गुरबाजला बाद करत चांगली सुरुवात केली. जेन्सन, रबाडा व नॉर्किए या तिकडेने केवळ 28 धावांमध्ये अफगाणिस्तानचे 6 फलंदाज तंबूत पाठवले. फिरकीपटू तबरेझ शम्सीने अखेरचे तीन फलंदाज बाद करत अफगाणिस्तानचा डाव केवळ 56 धावांवर गुंडाळला. विशेष म्हणजे अफगाणिस्तानकडून सर्वाधिक धावसंख्या 10 राहिली. तर, अवांतर धावा 13 मिळाल्या.
विजयासाठी मिळालेल्या 57 धावांचा पाठलाग करताना डी कॉक दुसऱ्याच षटकात माघारी परतला. मात्र, फलंदाजांना अवघड असलेल्या या खेळपट्टीवर रिझा हेन्ड्रिक्स व कर्णधार ऐडन मार्करम यांनी संयम दाखवत नवव्या षटकात संघाला विजय मिळवून दिला.
या विजयासह दक्षिण आफ्रिका प्रथमच कोणत्याही विश्वचषकाच्या अंतिम सामन्यात खेळेल. दुसऱ्या उपांत्य सामन्यात भारत आणि इंग्लंड समोरासमोर येणार आहेत.
