Dinesh Karthik Retirement|अहमदाबाद येथे झालेल्या आयपीएल 2024 (IPL 2024) एलिमिनेटर सामन्यात राजस्थान रॉयल्सने रॉयल चॅलेंजर्स बेंगळुरू संघाला चार गडी राखून पराभूत केले. त्यासह आरसीबीचे स्पर्धेतील आव्हान संपुष्टात आले. त्याचबरोबर आरसीबीसाठी खेळणारा वरिष्ठ भारतीय यष्टीरक्षक दिनेश कार्तिक (Dinesh Karthik) याच्या खेळाडू म्हणून कारकिर्दीची अखेर झाली. दोन दशकांपेक्षा जास्त काळ तो सक्रिय क्रिकेटपटू म्हणून कार्यरत राहिला.

आयपीएल 2024 सुरू होण्यापूर्वीच कार्तिक याने हा आपला अखेरचा हंगाम असल्याचे म्हटले होते. आरसीबी संघाची सुरुवातीची कामगिरी खराब असल्यानंतरही स्वतः कार्तिक याने जबाबदारी घेत अनेक महत्त्वपूर्ण खेळ्या केल्या. त्याने यावर्षी 15 सामन्यात 326 धावा फटकावल्या. यामध्ये त्याचा स्ट्राईक रेट 187 पेक्षा जास्त राहिला. त्याच्या संपूर्ण आयपीएल कारकीर्दीचा विचार केल्यास त्याने 257 सामन्यात 4842 धावा केल्या. मागील तीन हंगामापासून त्याने आरसीबीसाठी फिनिशर म्हणून आपला वेगळा दबदबा निर्माण केला. यष्टिरक्षक म्हणून 145 झेल व 37 स्टंपिंग त्याने केल्या.
त्याने भारतीय क्रिकेट संघासाठी 2004 मध्ये पदार्पण केले होते. त्यानंतर तो अठरा वर्ष भारतीय संघासाठी खेळत राहिला. एमएस धोनी याच्या अनुपस्थितीत अनेक वेळा भारतीय संघाचा प्रमुख यष्टीरक्षक म्हणून त्यांनी जबाबदारी पार पाडली. त्याने भारतासाठी 26 कसोटी खेळताना 1025 धावा केल्या. तर 94 वनडे खेळताना 1752 धावा व 60 टी20 सामने खेळताना 686 धावा त्याच्या खात्यावर जमा झाल्या. भारतीय संघाने जिंकलेल्या 2007 टी20 विश्वचषक व 2013 चॅम्पियन्स ट्रॉफी विजेत्या संघाचा तो भाग होता.
