आयपीएल 2024 (IPL 2024) च्या अंतिम सामन्यात केकेआर (KKR) संघाने सनरायझर्स हैदराबादचा पराभव केला. यासह त्यांनी तिसऱ्यांदा ही स्पर्धा आपल्या नावे केली. त्यांच्या या यशानंतर संघाचा मेंटर गौतम गंभीर याच्या नावाची चांगलीच चर्चा होत आहे. गंभीरमुळे संघाला हे यश मिळाल्याचे अनेक जण बोलत आहेत. मात्र, केकेआर (KKR) संघाच्या काही खेळाडूंनी या यशाचे श्रेय सहाय्यक प्रशिक्षक अभिषेक नायर (Abhishek Nayar) यांना दिले.
अंतिम सामन्यात केकेआरने सनरायझर्स हैदराबादला डोके वर काढू दिले नाही. विजयासाठी मिळालेल्या 114 धावांचा पाठलाग करताना त्यांनी फक्त दोन गडी गमावत विजयी लक्ष गाठले. यानंतर केकेआरच्या खेळाडूंनी मोठा जल्लोष केला. सोशल मीडिया तसेच समालोचक हे संघाच्या या यशाचे श्रेय यावर्षी प्रथमच मेंटर म्हणून सामील झालेल्या गौतम गंभीर याला देताना दिसले. परंतु, स्पर्धेत केकेआरसाठी सर्वाधिक बळी मिळवणारा गोलंदाज वरूण चक्रवर्ती (Varun Chakravarty) याने वेगळेच नाव घेतले.
हर्षा भोगले यांच्याशी संवाद साधताना तो म्हणाला,
“संघासाठी विदेशी खेळाडू अनेक वर्ष चांगले कामगिरी करत आले आहेत. मात्र, युवा भारतीय खेळाडूंवर लक्ष देऊन मागील पाच-सहा वर्षांपासून त्यांना तयार करण्याचे महत्त्वाचे काम अभिषेक नायर यांनी केले. या सर्वा मागे तो प्रमुख व्यक्ती आहे.”
अभिषेक नायर यांनी 2018 मध्ये संघाच्या सपोर्ट स्टाफमध्ये सहाय्यक प्रशिक्षक म्हणून प्रवेश केला होता. त्यानंतर ते सातत्याने संघासोबत आहेत. रिंकू सिंग, हर्षित राणा, वैभव अरोडा व अंगकृश रघुवंशी यासारखे खेळाडू त्यांनी विश्वास देऊन तयार केल्याचे सांगण्यात येते. तसेच श्रेयस अय्यर यांना कर्णधार व चंद्रकांत पंडित यांना मुख्य प्रशिक्षक बनवण्यात देखील त्यांचा महत्त्वाचा हात आहे.
