Tennis News| इटलीची राजधानी रोम येथे खेळल्या गेलेल्या इटालियन ओपन 2024 (Italian Open 2024) स्पर्धेची रविवारी (19 मे) सांगता झाली. अंतिम सामन्यात जर्मनीच्या ऍलेक्झांडर झेरेव याने चिलीच्या निकोलस जारी याला पराभूत करत विजेतेपद पटकावले. हे त्याच्या कारकिर्दीतील 22 वे टूर लेव्हल विजेतेपद ठरले. यापूर्वी देखील त्याने 2017 मध्ये या स्पर्धेच्या विजेतेपदाला गवसणी घातली होती.

फ्रेंच ओपन आधी झालेल्या या महत्त्वपूर्ण स्पर्धेत दोन्ही खेळाडूंनी अनेक मातब्बरांना पराभूत करत अंतिम फेरीत धडक मारली होती. मात्र, अंतिम फेरीत झेरेव हा जारी याच्यावर भारी पडला. त्याने एक तास 41 मिनिटे चाललेल्या या सामन्यात 6-4,7-5 असा सरळ सेटमध्ये विजय मिळवत स्पर्धा जिंकली. फ्रेंच ओपन 2022 मध्ये झालेल्या दुखापतीनंतर त्याने जिंकलेले हे पहिलेच मोठे विजेतेपद आहे.
या विजयानंतर बोलताना तो म्हणाला,
“या विजेतेपदानंतर मी खरंच आनंदी आहे. अतिशय वेगाने पुढे सरकलेल्या या स्पर्धेत विजेतेपद मिळवणे खास ठरते. जारी हा देखील उमदा खेळाडू आहे त्याने चांगली झुंज दिली. त्याला मी सल्ला दिलेला आहे की तू असाच खेळत रहा तुझे भविष्य उज्वल आहे.”
जून महिन्यात सुरू होत असलेल्या फ्रेंच ओपन स्पर्धेत आता झेरेव याच्या कामगिरीकडे सर्वांचे लक्ष असेल.
