भारताचा आघाडीचा टेनिसपटू सुमित नागल (Sumit Nagal) याने ऐतिहासिक कामगिरी केली आहे. जगातील सर्वात जुनी ग्रँडस्लॅम स्पर्धा असलेल्या विंबल्डन (Wimbledon 2024) स्पर्धेत तो यंदा खेळताना दिसणार आहे. विंबल्डन आयोजकांकडून जाहीर झालेल्या मेन ड्रॉमध्ये त्याला संधी मिळाली. तब्बल पाच वर्षानंतर भारताचा पुरुष एकेरी खेळाडू या स्पर्धेत खेळताना दिसेल. यंदा ही स्पर्धा 1 जुलैपासून सुरू होईल.

सुमित हा मागील काही वर्षांपासून भारताचा प्रमुख टेनिसपटू म्हणून उदयास आला आहे. वर्षातील तिसरे ग्रँडस्लॅम असलेल्या विम्बल्डन स्पर्धेत त्याला 99 वे मानांकन प्राप्त झाले. भारताकडून अखेरच्या वेळी 2019 मध्ये प्रज्ञेश गुणेश्वरन हा सहभागी झाला होता.
यंदा या स्पर्धेत पहिले मानांकन नोव्हाक जोकोविच याला मिळाले. जेनिक सिन्नर याला दुसरे तर गतविजेता कार्लोस अल्कारेझ तिसरे मानांकन प्राप्त झाले. आपला अखेरचा हंगाम खेळत असलेला दिग्गज राफेल नदाल याला दहावे मानांकन मिळाले.
